ABOUT THE ARTIST

The Offspring

The Offspring are an American punk rock band formed in 1984 in Garden Grove, California. With a career spanning nearly four decades, the band is one of the most successful and influential punk rock bands of the '90s, known for hits like "Come Out and Play," "Self Esteem," "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)," and "The Kids Aren't Alright." The band's classic lineup includes Dexter Holland (lead vocals and guitarist), Noodles (guitarist), Greg K. (bassist) and Ron Welty (drummer).

The Offspring began under the name Manic Subsidal before adopting their current name in 1986. The band was influenced by punk rock groups such as The Ramones, Dead Kennedys, and The Clash, and quickly developed a sound of their own, combining the raw energy of punk with catchy melodies and lyrics that often address themes of youth alienation, social issues, and cultural satire.

Their first studio album, The Offspring, was released in 1989, but it was their second album, Ignition (1992), that began to gain traction in the underground punk scene. However, the real success came in 1994 with the release of the album Smash. Smash became a staple of '90s punk rock, selling over 11 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling album ever released by an independent label. Singles such as "Come Out and Play," "Self Esteem," and "Gotta Get Away" have become punk rock anthems and helped popularize the genre on a global scale.

With the success of Smash, The Offspring became one of the leading bands of the punk revival movement of the 1990s, alongside other bands such as Green Day and Rancid. The band continued to release successful albums, including Ixnay on the Hombre (1997) and Americana (1998). Americana was particularly successful, containing hits such as "Pretty Fly (for a White Guy)," "The Kids Aren't Alright," and "Why Don't You Get a Job?" The blend of punk rock with elements of humor and social criticism helped the band maintain a loyal fan base and appeal to a wider audience.

The album Conspiracy of One (2000) continued the band's winning formula, with singles such as "Original Prankster" and "Want You Bad." Although punk rock's popularity began to wane in the mainstream, The Offspring continued to succeed while maintaining their relevance in the music scene.

In 2003, the band released Splinter, which included the single "Hit That," a song that showed the band's willingness to experiment with new sounds, including electronic elements. Although Splinter received mixed reviews, the band continued to tour extensively, maintaining a strong presence in the live scene.

The Offspring have released other albums over the years, including Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace (2008), which included the hit "You're going to Go Far, Kid," and Days Go By (2012). The band continued to explore new sounds while maintaining the punk roots that made them famous.

In 2021, The Offspring released the album Let the Bad Times Roll, their first in nearly a decade. The album was well received by fans and marked the band's continuation in the music industry, showing that, despite the changes over the years, The Offspring still maintains the energy and spirit that made them punk rock icons.

Throughout their career, The Offspring have sold over 40 million albums worldwide, and their music continues to influence new generations of punk rock bands and fans. With lyrics that capture the anguish and frustrations of youth, combined with unparalleled energy and an unmistakable sound, The Offspring have secured their place as one of the most important alternative rock and punk rock bands of the last decades.
