ABOUT THE ARTIST

Suede

Suede is a British alternative rock band formed in 1989 in London. Initially composed of Brett Anderson (vocals and rhythm guitar), Bernard Butler (lead guitar), Mat Osman (bass) and Simon Gilbert (drums), the band is known for its distinctive sound, which blends elements of glam rock, indie rock and pop, as well as its lyrical and often melodramatic lyrics.

The band's debut album, Suede (1993), was a landmark in the British music scene, standing out for its glam and Britpop style. The album included hit singles such as "The Drowners," "Animal Nitrate," and "So Young," which helped establish Suede as one of the leading bands in the Britpop scene. This work is known for its blend of rock and glam aesthetics, with lyrics that address themes of alienation and desire.

The band's second album, Dog Man Star (1994), is often considered one of their best works. With Bernard Butler's departure during recording, the band adopted a more sophisticated and melancholic sound. Tracks like "We Are the Pigs" and "The Wild Ones" showed an evolution in the band's sound and lyricism, with a grander and more introspective sound.

After Butler's departure, the band released Coming Up (1996), which marked a return to commercial success with tracks like "Trash" and "Beautiful Ones". The album is notable for its more accessible approach and its ability to combine catchy melodies with the band's distinctive style.

Head Music (1999) and A New Morning (2002) continued to explore new musical directions, but received a more lukewarm critical reception. After a hiatus, the band returned with a new lineup and the album Bloodsports (2013), which was well-received and marked a return to the band's more characteristic sound. Night Thoughts (2016) continued the positive reception, presenting a more cohesive and mature approach.

Suede is known for its introspective and emotional lyrics, as well as its glam and theatrical style. The band played a significant role in the 90s Britpop scene and remains a significant figure in alternative rock. With a career spanning several decades, Suede is appreciated for its impact on British music and its ability to innovate and evolve over time.

The band continues to release new music and tour, remaining relevant and respected in the music scene, and its legacy is celebrated by both longtime fans and new generations of listeners.
