ABOUT THE ARTIST

Roxy Music

Roxy Music is a British band formed in 1970 in London, which has emerged as one of the most influential in experimental rock and pop, pioneering glam rock and art rock. The band was founded by Bryan Ferry (vocals and keyboards) and included members such as Brian Eno (synthesizers and keyboards), Phil Manzanera (guitar) and Andy Mackay (saxophone and oboe). Roxy Music is known for its unique combination of sophisticated sounds and an innovative visual aesthetic, which challenged the conventions of popular music in the 70s.

The eponymous debut album, Roxy Music (1972), brought to light a sound that blended rock, pop, art rock and avant-garde influences, with tracks such as "Re-Make/Re-Model" and "Virginia Plain". Brian Eno's presence on the first two albums, Roxy Music and For Your Pleasure (1973), was crucial to the development of the band's unique sound, especially with the band's innovative use of synthesizers and sound treatments.

After Eno's departure in 1973, Bryan Ferry took even more creative control of the band, directing Roxy Music towards a more sophisticated and elegant sound, culminating in albums such as Stranded (1973) and Country Life (1974), which maintained the band's critical and commercial success.

In the following years, Roxy Music released acclaimed albums such as Siren (1975), which includes the hit "Love Is the Drug", one of the band's biggest hits. After a break, the band returned with Manifesto (1979), which marked the beginning of a more pop- and new wave-oriented phase, culminating in Avalon (1982), an album that is often cited as one of the group's best, with its smooth and atmospheric sound, including tracks such as "More Than This" and "Avalon".

Roxy Music has had a lasting impact on popular music, influencing a wide range of artists and genres, from punk and new wave to synth-pop and electronic music. The band continues to be celebrated for its ability to combine musical innovation with a strong visual and stylistic identity, remaining one of the most respected and influential of its generation. In 2019, Roxy Music was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in recognition of her significant contribution to music.
