ABOUT THE ARTIST

Soulfly

Soulfly is a metal band formed in 1997 by Max Cavalera, former vocalist and guitarist of Sepultura, after his departure from the Brazilian band. Originally from Phoenix, Arizona, the band is known for combining elements of groove metal, thrash metal, and nu metal with influences from tribal music, world music, and elements of Brazilian culture, creating a unique and distinctive sound.

Their debut album, titled Soulfly (1998), featured the band's trademark: a fusion of heavy riffs with tribal percussions and lyrics that explore spiritual, social, and political themes. This album featured guest appearances, including Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit), which helped the band quickly gain notoriety in the metal scene. Songs such as "Eye for an Eye" and "Bleed" became hits within the genre.

Over the years, Soulfly has released several critically and fan-acclaimed albums, such as Primitive (2000), 3 (2002), Prophecy (2004), and Enslaved (2012). Each album brought new experimentation, including influences from reggae, dub, and Arabic music, showing Max Cavalera's willingness to explore new musical territories. The band is known for its intense live performances, in which Cavalera leads the energy of the stage with his charismatic presence and the strength of his music.

Despite several lineup changes over the years, with Max Cavalera being the only constant member, Soulfly has maintained its relevance and influence in the global metal scene. The band continues to release new albums and tour the world, solidifying their legacy as one of the groundbreaking forces in modern metal.
