ABOUT THE ARTIST

New Order

New Order is a British rock and electronic music band formed in 1980 in Manchester, England. The group was created by the remaining members of the band Joy Division after the death of vocalist Ian Curtis. The original lineup included Bernard Sumner (vocalist and guitarist), Peter Hook (bassist), Stephen Morris (drummer), and Gillian Gilbert (keyboardist and guitarist). Over the years, New Order has become one of the most influential and innovative bands of the post-punk and electronic music movement, pioneering the combination of elements of rock, new wave, and dance music.

Following the dissolution of Joy Division, New Order quickly began developing their own sound, more oriented towards electronics and influenced by the emerging dance music movement. Their first single, "Ceremony," still carried remnants of Joy Division's dark and melancholic sound, but as the band evolved, they began incorporating synthesizers, electronic drums, and disco beats, resulting in a unique fusion of styles. In 1983, they released "Blue Monday," one of their biggest hits and a landmark in the history of electronic music. The song, which became the best-selling 12-inch single of all time, is widely considered one of the first great anthems of dance music.

The album Power, Corruption & Lies (1983) solidified New Order's sound, with a combination of rock and electronic music that became their signature. The band continued to explore new musical territories with albums such as Low-Life (1985) and Brotherhood (1986), both containing tracks that innovatively mixed guitars and synthesizers. In 1987, they released Substance, a compilation that included some of their greatest hits and helped to further expand their popularity, both in Europe and the United States.

In the 1990s, New Order continued to release hit songs, although they faced some internal challenges and lineup changes. The album Technique (1989) reflected the influence of the Ibiza acid house scene, where the band spent some time, and was followed by Republic (1993), which included the single "Regret," one of their biggest hits. After a hiatus, the band reunited to release Get Ready (2001) and Waiting for the Sirens’ Call (2005), both of which were critically acclaimed and showed that New Order was still a relevant creative force.

New Order remains one of the most respected and influential bands in modern music. Their ability to fuse genres and constantly innovate in sound has made them pioneers in both alternative rock and electronic music. The band's impact is felt in countless areas of music, and songs like "Blue Monday," "Bizarre Love Triangle," and "True Faith" remain timeless classics. Even after decades of career, New Order continues to record, perform, and influence new generations of musicians and fans around the world.
