ABOUT THE ARTIST

Nickelback

Nickelback is a Canadian rock band formed in 1995 in Hanna, Alberta. The band consists of Chad Kroeger (lead vocalist and lead guitarist), Ryan Peake (guitarist and backing vocalist), Mike Kroeger (bassist) and Daniel Adair (drummer, who joined the group in 2005). Nickelback is one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the 21st century, known for their distinctive sound that mixes alternative rock, post-grunge and hard rock, and for a string of hits that have dominated the charts over the years.

The story of Nickelback began when brothers Chad and Mike Kroeger, along with friend Ryan Peake, decided to form a band. The name "Nickelback" came from Mike Kroeger's experience working at a Starbucks, where he often returned change to customers, saying "Here's your nickel back". The band began playing in small rooms and releasing music independently, until their second album, The State (1998), caught the attention of major labels.

The band's real success came with the release of their third album, Silver Side Up (2001), which included the single "How You Remind Me". This song became a huge global hit, reaching number one on the charts in the United States, Canada, and several other countries. "How You Remind Me" was widely praised for its catchy melody and introspective lyrics, and established Nickelback as one of the leading rock bands of the time. The success of Silver Side Up was followed by several other popular tracks, such as "Too Bad" and "Never Again", which continued to gain radio airplay and solidify the band's popularity.

In 2003, Nickelback released the album The Long Road, which spawned more hits, including "Someday", "Figured You Out", and "Feelin' Way Too Damn Good". The album was another commercial success, reaching the top of the charts in several countries. Nickelback continued to attract a large fan base, although they also began to face criticism from some sectors of the press and the public, who accused the band of producing repetitive, commercially oriented music.

The album All the Right Reasons (2005) was a milestone in the band's career, being one of their most successful albums. It included a number of hit singles, such as "Photograph", "Far Away", "Savin' Me" and "Rockstar". This album sold millions of copies worldwide and cemented Nickelback as one of the most popular rock bands of the 2000s. "Photograph", in particular, became one of the band's most iconic songs, with nostalgic lyrics that resonated with many listeners.

Over the next few years, Nickelback released several albums that continued to be commercially successful, including Dark Horse (2008), Here and Now (2011), No Fixed Address (2014), and Feed the Machine (2017). Each of these albums produced singles that received heavy radio rotation, such as "Gotta Be Somebody", "If Today Was Your Last Day", "When We Stand Together" and "Edge of a Revolution". The band remained consistent in producing songs that, while often criticized by some, were undeniably popular with a large fan base.Despite criticism, Nickelback remains one of the best-selling rock bands and a fixture on rock radio. They are also known for their energetic live tours, which continue to attract large audiences around the world.

Nickelback is a band that, regardless of the polarization it causes, has left an indelible mark on rock music in recent decades. Their ability to create music that captures the attention of mass audiences and their perseverance in continuing to release new works ensure them a place in the history of popular music. While they are loved by millions of fans, they have become something of a cultural icon, representing an accessible and massively successful style of rock that defined an era.
