ABOUT THE ARTIST

Pat Metheny

Pat Metheny, born in 1954 in Lee's Summit, Missouri, is an American guitarist and composer widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary jazz. His career, which spans more than five decades, is marked by a rare combination of technical virtuosity, sonic experimentation and melodic accessibility.

Metheny began playing professionally as a teenager and gained notoriety when he joined, in the early 1970s, the band of Gary Burton, a vibraphonist with whom he developed a strong artistic connection. His debut album, Bright Size Life (1976), recorded with Jaco Pastorius and Bob Moses, already revealed an innovative approach, mixing jazz, rock and folk in a subtle and sophisticated way.

Shortly after, he founded the Pat Metheny Group with keyboardist Lyle Mays, a creative partnership that would become legendary. Albums such as Offramp (1982), Still Life (Talking) (1987) and Letter from Home (1989) established a unique sound, marked by the pioneering use of the guitar-synthesizer, expansive harmonies and unforgettable melodies.

Metheny also stood out for his versatility, exploring multiple musical universes: from traditional jazz to fusions with Brazilian music (As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls, 1981), through pure experimentalism in collaborations with Ornette Coleman (Song X, 1986) and orchestral and minimalist music.

With a prolific discography and more than 20 Grammys won in different categories — from jazz to instrumental rock, including classical music — Metheny has established himself as one of the most respected and awarded musicians of his generation.

Live, he is known for the intensity of his performances and the ability to create immersive experiences, exploring both free improvisation and the precise execution of his compositions.

Today, Pat Metheny is celebrated as a tireless and visionary artist whose music continues to expand horizons while remaining accessible and deeply emotional, while exploring new frontiers in jazz and contemporary music.
