ABOUT THE ARTIST

Living Colour

Living Colour is an American rock band formed in 1984 in New York City by Vernon Reid (guitar), Muzz Skillings (bass), Will Calhoun (drums) and Corey Glover (vocals), later replaced by Doug Wimbish on bass. Known for fusing heavy rock, funk, jazz and soul, they stood out in a panorama dominated by white bands, bringing themes of racial identity and social justice.

Their debut album Vivid (1988) was an immediate success, thanks to "Cult of Personality," a Grammy-winning track that became an anthem for all generations. On Time's Up (1990), they further explored stylistic diversity, incorporating elements of hip-hop, metal, and reggae, and were awarded for originality and musical virtuosity.

From Stain (1993), they launched themselves into darker and denser territories, and after a first break in 1995, they returned in 2000 with Collideøscope, an album that dealt with political and personal themes in a forceful way. In the following years, they continued to release albums such as The Chair in the Doorway (2009) and Shade (2017), keeping the flame of their hybrid sound alive.

On stage, Living Colour are synonymous with raw energy and improvisation - incendiary guitar solos, pulsating grooves and Corey Glover's powerful voice create mosh pits and atmospheres of ritual celebration. They celebrated, on world tours, more than thirty years of career, and are now considered pioneers at the intersection between alternative rock and social consciousness.
