ABOUT THE ARTIST

Obituary

Obituary is an American death metal band formed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida. They are one of the pioneering bands of the genre and are widely recognized as one of the most influential in the death metal scene. Originally known as Executioner (and briefly Xecutioner), the band changed their name to Obituary in 1988.

The band's debut album, Slowly We Rot (1989), is considered one of the death metal classics, characterized by its heavy riffs, guttural vocals, and a dark atmosphere that helped define the sound of Florida death metal. The success of this album solidified Obituary's position as one of the most important bands in the genre.

The follow-up album, Cause of Death (1990), is often cited as one of the greatest death metal albums of all time, thanks to its impeccable production and the enduring impact of tracks like "Chopped in Half" and "Body Bag". This album also marked the band's first collaboration with guitarist James Murphy.

Over the years, Obituary released several well-received albums, including The End Complete (1992), which was one of the best-selling death metal albums of the time. The band is known for maintaining their signature sound, without deviating too much from their roots, and for being a constant presence in the extreme metal scene.

Obituary continued to tour and release new albums, such as Inked in Blood (2014) and Obituary (2017), showing that, decades after their inception, the band is still a dominant force in death metal.

The band is widely respected for its enduring influence and for helping to establish death metal as a major genre in extreme music, inspiring countless other bands over the years.
