ABOUT THE ARTIST

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard is an Australian experimental rock band formed in 2010 in Melbourne. Composed of seven members — Stu Mackenzie (vocals and guitar), Ambrose Kenny-Smith (harmonica and synthesizers), Joey Walker (guitar and vocals), Cook Craig (guitar), Michael Cavanagh (drums), Michael "Mick" Swaine (bass), and Julien Baker (percussion) — the band is known for its eclectic approach to music, exploring a wide range of styles, including psychedelic rock, jazz, prog rock, electronic music, and even metal.

The band's debut album, 12 Bar Bruise (2012), showcased a raw and energetic sound, with influences from garage rock and psychedelic rock. However, it was with their second album, I'm In Your Mind Fuzz (2014), that King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard began to gain international recognition. The album is often considered a landmark for the band, highlighting their ability to blend heavy riffs with psychedelic improvisations and complex compositions. Tracks like "Cellophane" and "I'm In Your Mind" captured the essence of the band, offering an innovative sound and an experimental touch.

Over the years, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have maintained a prolific approach, releasing numerous albums and EPs, often with different styles and concepts. In 2016, the band released five albums in a single year, including Nonagon Infinity, which is widely considered one of their best works. This album exemplifies their ability to create complex and captivating music, combining psychedelia, progressive rock, and a relentless sound where each song seems to transition into the next, creating a continuous listening experience.

In 2017, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard continued to explore new musical frontiers with the album Polygondwanaland, a work characterized by its experimental compositions and influences from chamber music and jazz. The band also ventured into metal with the album Murder of the Universe (2017), which features a heavier and more aggressive sound, with tracks that explore apocalyptic and philosophical themes.

In addition to their consistent and eclectic musical output, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are known for their energetic live performances and intense shows. The band has built a loyal fanbase over the years thanks to their ability to innovate and challenge musical conventions.

With a career spanning over a decade, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard remains one of the most exciting and unpredictable bands in contemporary rock. Their challenging approach and ability to combine different genres and influences continue to captivate a vast audience, securing them an important place in the history of alternative music.
