ABOUT THE ARTIST

Gossip

Gossip, also known as The Gossip, is an American rock band formed in 1999 in Olympia, Washington. The band consists of Beth Ditto (vocalist), Brace Paine (guitarist and bassist) and Hannah Blilie (drums). The group is known for its energetic sound that blends elements of punk, rock, and dance, and the charismatic presence of Beth Ditto, whose powerful voice and exuberant style have won fans around the world.

The band's debut album, That's Not What I Heard (2001), released on the independent label Kill Rock Stars, helped establish Gossip as an emerging force in the indie rock scene. The band's music quickly stood out for its infectious rhythm, sharp lyrics, and the raw energy of live performances.

The band's biggest commercial success came with the album Standing in the Way of Control (2006), particularly with the title track, which became an anthem of empowerment, especially in the LGBTQ+ community. The song "Standing in the Way of Control" was written as a response to the United States government's attempt to prevent same-sex marriage, and became one of Gossip's biggest hits.

The band's next album, Music for Men (2009), further cemented the band's success, with singles such as "Heavy Cross" receiving wide radio airplay and critical acclaim. "Heavy Cross" became one of the band's biggest hits and one of the most enduring songs on the European charts.

Beth Ditto, in addition to her career with Gossip, is also recognized as a fashion icon and activist, known for challenging traditional beauty standards and for her advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights.

The band announced a break in 2012, but the members continued to pursue solo careers. Beth Ditto released her solo album Fake Sugar in 2017, exploring new musical directions while maintaining the vibrant spirit that defined Gossip.

Gossip is remembered for her unique contribution to alternative rock, combining music with a strong social message and an unforgettable live performance.
