Pedro Abrunhosa, a leading figure in Portuguese music, has built a solid career over more than forty years, rooted in various cultural and musical influences. At the age of 16, he immersed himself in music through an erudite education, studying Analysis, Composition and History of Music, with Álvaro Salazar and Jorge Peixinho, at the Porto School of Music, and with Cândido Lima at the Conservatory. With a scholarship from the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, he has been a member of European orchestras in Prague and Budapest and was part of the Madrid Contemporary Music Group. Later, he brought his classical training to the world of jazz, studying and collaborating with several renowned musicians. He produced the program Até Jazz, on Rádio Clube do Porto, and founded the jazz school Cool Jazz Orchestra.
In 1994, he created Bandemónio and released his first album, Viagens. He has 13 albums released and has given more than 2000 shows around the world. He has partnered with international and national artists and has been distinguished with several awards, including two Gold Medals for Cultural Merit, three Golden Globes and four Blitz Awards. In 2024, the album Viagens was considered the best of the last forty years by a vast jury of peers ( Blitz/Expresso Award).
Along with music, Pedro Abrunhosa is also an experienced speaker in lectures, debates and cultural, corporate and academic events.
