ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tim Hecker

Tim Hecker (born July 17, 1974) is a Canadian composer and producer of electronic and experimental music. Recognized as one of the most innovative and influential artists in contemporary ambient music, Hecker has built a career marked by the creation of dense, atmospheric, and emotive soundscapes, often exploring themes of transcendence, impermanence, and spirituality.

Beginning his career in the late '90s under the name Jetone, Tim Hecker produced minimalist techno music before transitioning to a more abstract and textural style. His debut album as Tim Hecker, Haunt Me, Haunt Me Do It Again (2001), marked the beginning of a unique approach that blends noise, drone and ambient, using complex layers of processed sound to create immersive atmospheres.

Over the years, Hecker has released a number of widely acclaimed albums, including Harmony in Ultraviolet (2006) and Ravedeath, 1972 (2011). The latter, recorded in a church in Iceland, stood out for the combination of electronic textures and acoustic elements, such as the sound of a pipe organ, exploring a juxtaposition between the modern and the traditional.

In 2016, Hecker released Love Streams, which incorporated choral voices and arrangements inspired by Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez, marking an expansion in his approach. More recent works, such as Konoyo (2018) and Anoyo (2019), reflect the influence of traditional Japanese music, exploring the dialogue between contemporary technology and ancestral musical practices.

With a career that transcends genres and boundaries, Tim Hecker continues to be a central figure in experimental music, celebrated for his ability to create immersive sonic worlds that challenge and thrill listeners. His music is often described as meditative and transformative, cementing his status as one of the greatest visionaries of contemporary electronic music.
