The Kinks are a British rock band formed in 1963 in London, England. Founded by brothers Ray and Dave Davies, the band is considered one of the most influential in British rock, having played a crucial role in defining the sound of British Invasion in the 60s. In addition to the Davies brothers, the band's classic line-up included Pete Quaife (bassist) and Mick Avory (drums). With sophisticated lyrical compositions and catchy melodies, The Kinks have stood out for their ability to capture the essence of everyday British life in their songs.

The band's first major hit came in 1964 with the song "You Really Got Me", which became a staple in rock due to its distorted and powerful guitar riff, played by Dave Davies. This song, along with "All Day and All of the Night," helped define the sound of garage rock and influenced numerous bands that emerged later. The band also gained a significant presence in the United States during this decade, adapting their sound to a wider audience and gaining new fans with albums such as Sleepwalker (1977) and Low Budget (1979).

Despite several lineup changes and challenges over the decades, The Kinks remained active until the mid-'90s, leaving a lasting legacy in rock music.
