ABOUT THE ARTIST

B.B. King

B.B. King, born Riley B. King on September 16, 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi, and died on May 14, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada, was one of the most iconic and influential blues guitarists and singers of all time. Known as the "King of the Blues," B.B. King helped popularize the blues worldwide and inspired generations of musicians with his unique style of guitar playing, characterized by the emotive vibrato and singular notes that have become his signature.

King began his musical career in the 1940s, initially playing on local radio stations in Memphis, Tennessee. His first big break came with the success of "Three O'Clock Blues" in 1952, which topped the R&B charts and launched his career as a blues star. Throughout his career, he has released a number of classics, including "The Thrill Is Gone", "Every Day I Have the Blues", "Sweet Little Angel", and "Rock Me Baby".

One of B.B. King's most distinguishing features was his guitar, which he affectionately called "Lucille." With Lucille, King developed a style of guitar playing that combined the emotion of the blues with precise technique, avoiding excessive use of chords and instead focusing on expressive solos that touched the listeners' hearts directly. His style has profoundly influenced musicians of various genres, including rock, jazz, and soul.

B.B. King won numerous awards throughout his life, including 15 Grammy Awards, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. He was also honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2006, in recognition of his contribution to American music and culture.

In addition to his musical accomplishments, B.B. King was known for his dedication to his fans and his willingness to perform extensively throughout his career. Even in his old age, he continued to tour and share his music with the world.

B.B. King's legacy endures as one of the biggest names in music, with his influence being felt in virtually every form of popular music that came after him. He continues to be celebrated not only as a master of the blues, but as one of the most important musicians of the twentieth century.
