ABOUT THE ARTIST

Leftfield

Leftfield is a British electronic music duo, originally formed by Neil Barnes and Paul Daley in 1989. The band is widely considered one of the pioneers of the progressive house genre, as well as an influential force in '90s electronic music, helping to shape the sound of contemporary dance music.

The band's debut album, Leftism (1995), is a milestone in electronic music, being critically acclaimed and considered one of the best dance music albums of all time. Leftism combines elements of house, techno, dub, and reggae, creating a rich and engaging sound. The album includes tracks such as "Release the Pressure" and "Open Up" (featuring John Lydon of the Sex Pistols), which have become iconic in the club scene and beyond.

In 1999, Leftfield released their second album, Rhythm and Stealth, which was equally well-received and includes hits such as "Afrika Shox", a collaboration with hip-hop pioneer Afrika Bambaataa. This album continued to explore the fusion of styles that characterized the band's sound while maintaining an impact on the dance floor and on the radio.

After the release of Rhythm and Stealth, the duo broke up, and Paul Daley decided to pursue other projects, while Neil Barnes kept the Leftfield name active. In 2010, Leftfield returned to live performance, with Neil Barnes leading the band on several tours and festivals.

In 2015, Leftfield released Alternative Light Source, their first album in 16 years, which saw Neil Barnes continue to explore and push the boundaries of electronic music while maintaining the essence of the sound that made Leftfield a major name in electronic music.

Leftfield is widely respected for its innovation and ability to cross genres, creating music that is both deeply atmospheric and incredibly danceable. Their influence can be felt in the many electronic music artists that have emerged since then, cementing their place in music history.
