ABOUT THE ARTIST

Weezer

Weezer is an American alternative rock band formed in 1992 in Los Angeles, California. Known for their catchy sound that mixes power pop, emo, and indie rock, the band has become one of the most influential in alternative music, with songs that balance humor, introspection, and irresistible melodies. The original line-up includes Rivers Cuomo (vocalist and guitarist), Brian Bell (guitarist), Matt Sharp (bassist) and Patrick Wilson (drummer). Although it has undergone member changes over the years, Weezer continues to be led by Cuomo, the creative force behind the band.

The debut album, known as The Blue Album (1994), was a resounding success, standing out with singles such as "Buddy Holly", "Undone – The Sweater Song" and "Say It Ain't So". Produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars, the album quickly won over fans and critics for its blend of introspective and humorous lyrics with powerful guitar riffs and catchy choruses. The Blue Album became an alternative rock classic, selling millions of copies and establishing Weezer as one of the most promising bands of the '90s.

After initial success, the band released Pinkerton (1996), a darker and more emotional album, which initially received mixed reviews, but was later re-evaluated as one of the most influential albums of the decade. With tracks like "El Scorcho" and "Across the Sea," Pinkerton became an emo staple and cemented the band's reputation as innovative and willing to take creative risks.

After a hiatus, Weezer returned in 2001 with The Green Album, which marked a more polished and accessible sound, with singles such as "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun" becoming major hits. This album ushered in a more commercially oriented phase, with albums such as Maladroit (2002), Make Believe (2005) – which included the hit "Beverly Hills" – and The Red Album (2008), with the popular single "Pork and Beans".

Over the next few decades, the band continued to experiment, releasing projects ranging from the introspective Everything Will Be Alright in the End (2014) to the experimental OK Human (2021). In 2021, they also released Van Weezer, a tribute to classic rock, full of riffs inspired by the heavy metal of the 80s. In addition, the band started the "SZNZ" project in 2022, with a series of seasonal EPs released throughout the year.

With a career spanning over three decades, Weezer maintains a loyal fanbase and enduring relevance. Their ability to balance pop accessibility with musical innovation, along with their authenticity and humor, has secured them a prominent place in the history of alternative rock. The band continues to perform and record, conquering new generations with their music and creative energy.
