ABOUT THE ARTIST

The Prodigy

The Prodigy is one of the most iconic and influential bands in electronic music, known for their aggressive and energetic sound, which combines elements of rave, techno, breakbeat, big beat and punk. Formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex, England, the band helped define and popularize the electronic music genre in the 1990s and 2000s, becoming one of the most recognized names in dance music worldwide.

The band's original line-up includes Liam Howlett (producer and keyboardist), Keith Flint (dancer and vocalist) and Leeroy Thornhill (dancer and keyboardist), with Maxim (vocalist) joining shortly after the initial line-up. Liam Howlett is the creative brain behind the band, responsible for producing and composing the songs, while Keith Flint and Maxim have become the leading figures, known for their intense and charismatic performances.

The Prodigy began to gain attention in the early 1990s with the release of their debut album, Experience (1992), which featured hits such as "Charly," "Out of Space," and "Everybody in the Place." This album captured the spirit of the British rave scene and quickly established the band as a major name in electronic music.

However, it was with the second album, Music for the Jilted Generation (1994), that The Prodigy established itself as an innovative force in the music scene. This album was a response to the crackdown on raves and the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act of 1994 in the United Kingdom, which restricted electronic music events. With tracks like "No Good (Start the Dance)," "Voodoo People," and "Poison," the album blended frenetic rave energy with a rebellious attitude, capturing the zeitgeist of British youth at the time.

In 1996, The Prodigy released the album The Fat of the Land, which became a worldwide smash hit. The album debuted at number one on several international charts, including the Billboard 200 in the United States. The Fat of the Land included some of the band's biggest hits, such as "Firestarter," "Breathe," and "Smack My Bitch Up," which became electronic anthems. "Firestarter" and "Breathe" were particularly notable for their innovative sound and provocative music videos, with Keith Flint taking on the role of lead vocalist and transforming himself into a cultural icon with his punk look.

The success of The Fat of the Land elevated The Prodigy to the status of electronic music superstars, leading them to tour the world and become headliners at major festivals, including Glastonbury. The band became known for their explosive live performances, where the raw energy and power of their electronic songs translated into an intense and visceral experience.

Throughout the 2000s, The Prodigy continued to release albums and tour while maintaining their relevance and loyal fan base. Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned (2004) and Invaders Must Die (2009) continued to explore the aggressive and heavy sound that characterized them, with "Invaders Must Die" being particularly well received, achieving commercial success and bringing the band back to the top of the charts.

Unfortunately, the band faced tragedy in 2019, when Keith Flint was found dead in his home, in an apparent suicide. Flint's death was a severe blow to fans and the music world, given his importance as the band's charismatic frontman. Despite this loss, Liam Howlett and Maxim continue to carry on the legacy of The Prodigy, vowing to continue making music and honoring Flint's memory.

The Prodigy is widely recognized as a band that not only defined big beat and dance music in the 1990s but also influenced a wide range of musical genres, including rock, hip-hop, and punk. His ability to combine the aggressiveness of punk with electronic beats and rave energy resulted in a unique sound that echoes to this day.

With a career marked by innovation, rebellion and an uncompromising approach to music, The Prodigy continues to be one of the most respected and beloved bands in electronic music. His cultural and musical impact is profound, and his music continues to inspire and energize fans around the world.
