ABOUT THE ARTIST

Justice

Justice is a French electronic music duo formed in 2003 by Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay. They are known for their unique combination of electro, house, rock, and classical music influences, creating a distinctive sound that blends heavy electronic elements with an aesthetic inspired by rock and orchestral music.

The duo rose to international prominence with the release of the single "We Are Your Friends" in 2006, a collaboration with the group Simian, which quickly became an anthem of the dance floors. However, it was with the release of his debut album, † (also known as Cross) in 2007, that Justice truly established himself as one of the leading forces in electronic music. The album was both a commercial and critical success, with tracks such as "D.A.N.C.E.", "Genesis", and "Waters of Nazareth" becoming iconic within the genre. The album is often praised for its ability to fuse distorted guitar riffs with powerful electronic beats and choral music elements, creating a grand and epic atmosphere.

Cross's success was followed by a world tour and the release of A Cross the Universe (2008), a live album that captured the energy of the duo's live performances. Justice is known for its intense live performances and striking visuals, often utilizing illuminated crosses as part of the scenery, which have become a symbol associated with the band.

In 2011, Justice released their second studio album, Audio, Video, Disco, which showed an evolution in the duo's sound, incorporating more influences from progressive rock and hard rock from the 1970s. This album presented a more organic approach, with a more prominent use of instruments such as guitars and drums, which contrasted with the more electronic sound of the previous album.

Over the years, Justice has continued to explore new sounds while maintaining his unique identity. In 2016, they released the album Woman, which brought back some of the electronic elements that marked the beginning of their career, while continuing to experiment with more elaborate arrangements and varied influences. The album was well received and followed by a live version titled Woman Worldwide (2018), which won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album.

Justice is widely recognized for her ability to create music that transcends the genre of electronica, incorporating a vast array of influences and offering a sonic experience that is both visceral and sophisticated. They continue to be one of the most respected and innovative duos in contemporary electronic music, with a loyal fan base around the world.
