Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band formed in 1996 by Sharon den Adel (vocalist) and Robert Westerholt (guitarist). The Heart of Everything (2007) followed this path, with singles like "What Have You Done," which featured Keith Caputo (now Mina Caputo), vocalist of Life of Agony. This album helped the band break into the North American market and was well-received by critics.

Throughout the following decade, Within Temptation continued to evolve their sound. The Unforgiving (2011) introduced hard rock and pop influences while remaining true to their symphonic roots. This concept album was accompanied by a series of comics and short films, reflecting the band's artistic ambition. On Hydra (2014), the band experimented even further, collaborating with artists from different genres, including Tarja Turunen, formerly of Nightwish, and rapper Xzibit, demonstrating their willingness to expand the boundaries of symphonic metal.

In 2019, the band released Resist, an album that reflects contemporary themes such as the fight for freedom and the impact of technology on society. The album features a more modern and aggressive sound, but maintains the grand and epic style that characterizes the band.

Within Temptation is one of the most influential and successful symphonic metal bands, with a dedicated fanbase worldwide.
