ABOUT THE ARTIST

Demented Are Go

Demented Are Go is a British psychobilly band formed in 1983 in Cardiff, Wales. Known for their frenetic approach to rockabilly mixed with punk and horror, the band became one of the most notable in the psychobilly movement, recognized for their irreverent style and explosive energy in their live performances. The band's original lineup included vocalist and leader Mark "Sparky" Phillips, who became a central figure in the psychobilly scene with his charismatic stage presence and his raspy, aggressive voice.

The band began to gain notoriety with their 1985 debut album, In Sickness & In Health, which quickly became a psychobilly classic. The band's sound blends fast, distorted guitar riffs with a relentless rhythm section, while the lyrics, often inspired by themes of horror, violence, and dark humor, became a trademark. Tracks like "Tornado" and "Go Go Demented" helped establish the band's unique identity, combining classic rockabilly with a punk and irreverent approach.

Over the years, Demented Are Go released several albums and continued to be a strong presence in the psychobilly scene, with records such as Kicked Out of Hell (1987) and Hellbilly Storm (1996). The band remained true to its distinctive sound, with a blend of aggressive rockabilly, punk, and a visual aesthetic inspired by horror and trash. Their frenetic sound and provocative lyrics continued to attract a loyal fanbase within the psychobilly subculture, and the band became a respected name within that movement.

Demented Are Go is also known for their intense live performances, which are often described as chaotic and energetic, reflecting the band's irreverent and brazen attitude. Their music, combined with their provocative attitude, has become a major influence on many bands within the genre and beyond, helping to shape psychobilly and underground music as a whole.

Although the band's lineup has changed over the years, with Mark Phillips being the only constant member, Demented Are Go remains one of the most beloved and influential bands within psychobilly. Their blend of classic rockabilly with punk energy and horror themes has secured them a prominent place in the alternative rock scene. Their music continues to be celebrated by fans of all generations, and their contribution to the psychobilly scene remains unquestionable.

With a career spanning over 30 years and a legacy that continues to influence new generations of musicians, Demented Are Go remains a vibrant and essential force within psychobilly and alternative rock. Their unique style and unrestrained approach to music have secured them an important place in the genre's history.
