ABOUT THE ARTIST

Chromeo

Chromeo is a Canadian electronic and funk music duo formed in Montreal in 2002. The band consists of David "Dave 1" Macklovitch (vocals and guitar) and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel (keyboards and vocals). Chromeo is known for its unique fusion of funk, disco, synth-pop, and electronic music, creating a catchy and danceable sound that combines classic grooves with modern elements. The duo has been one of the pioneers in the funk resurgence movement of the 2000s, and is widely respected for its creative approach and its ability to bring the sound of funk into the context of contemporary electronic music.

Chromeo began their career with the release of their first album, She's in Control (2004), which immediately attracted the attention of the music scene with its irreverent and danceable style. The album included tracks like "Needy Girl" and "Pimped Out," which became major hits in the electronic and funk music circuit, thanks to the mix of vintage synthesizers, funky guitar riffs, and seductive vocals. From that moment on, the band was recognized for creating a unique sound, simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic.

In 2007, Chromeo released Fancy Footwork, which took their sound to a more sophisticated level, with more refined production and a greater focus on dance funk and synth-pop. The album includes tracks like "Fancy Footwork" and "Bonafied Lovin'," which continued to solidify their place at the forefront of electronic dance music. Fancy Footwork was widely acclaimed and helped the duo expand their fanbase, especially among indie and electronic music fans.

With the release of Business Casual (2010), Chromeo continued their musical evolution, further blending disco, funk, and rock influences. Tracks like "Night by Night" and "Don't Turn the Lights On" maintained their distinctive style, but with a more polished, pop-oriented, and danceable production. The album was a commercial success and helped the band attract the attention of an even wider audience, including the mainstream.

In 2014, Chromeo released White Women, which brought even more influence from 80s funk and electronic music, with collaborations from artists such as Toro y Moi and Solange Knowles. The album includes the hit "Jealous (I Ain't With It)," which became one of the band's most popular songs, continuing the tradition of creating dance tracks with a touch of humor and their own style.

With the release of Head Over Heels in 2018, Chromeo continued to explore new musical directions, blending funk, disco, and elements of modern pop. Tracks like "Bad Decision" and "One Track Mind" maintained their energetic and seductive approach, but also introduced new influences and experimentation, continuing the band's evolution while remaining true to their signature sound.

Chromeo is widely recognized as one of the most important bands in the funk revival of the 2000s, and their ability to creatively combine retro and modern elements has been one of the reasons for their continued success. With a career marked by an innovative sound and an irreverent approach to music, the duo remains a reference in the world of electronic music, funk, and pop.
