Georg Friedrich Händel

Georg Friedrich Händel, também conhecido como George Frideric Handel, foi um dos compositores mais proeminentes do período barroco, nascido a 23 de fevereiro de 1685 em Halle, no Sacro Império Romano-Germânico (atualmente Alemanha), e falecido a 14 de abril de 1759 em Londres, Inglaterra. Händel é amplamente reconhecido pela sua enorme contribuição à música ocidental, especialmente no campo da ópera, oratório, e música orquestral.

Händel mostrou talento musical desde muito cedo, embora seu pai, que era barbeiro-cirurgião, preferisse que ele seguisse uma carreira em direito. No entanto, Händel conseguiu estudar música, primeiro em Halle e depois em Hamburgo, onde iniciou sua carreira como compositor de ópera. Em 1706, viajou para a Itália, onde aperfeiçoou o seu estilo e compôs várias óperas e obras sacras.

Em 1712, Händel estabeleceu-se em Londres, onde viveu pelo resto de sua vida. Ele rapidamente se tornou um dos compositores mais celebrados da Inglaterra, especialmente por suas óperas italianas, como Rinaldo (1711), que foi um grande sucesso.
