ABOUT THE ARTIST

Marduk

Marduk is a Swedish black metal band formed in 1990 in Norrköping by Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson (guitar), the only constant member throughout the band's history. Marduk is known for being one of the most extreme and tough bands in black metal, with lyrics that often address themes such as war, Satanism, anti-Christianity, and death.

The band's debut album, Dark Endless (1992), marked the beginning of a career that quickly stood out for the intensity and brutality of the sound. With the album Those of the Unlight (1993), Marduk began to gain notoriety in the underground black metal scene, but it was with the album Opus Nocturne (1994) that the band really established itself as one of the main forces of the genre.

In 1996, Marduk released Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered, an album that further reinforced their reputation, characterized by fast riffs, furious beats and provocative lyrics. This album also marked the debut of vocalist Legion, who brought a new ferocity to the band. Albums such as Nightwing (1998) and Panzer Division Marduk (1999) followed, which is often cited as one of the band's most intense and fast-paced albums, focused almost entirely on themes of war and destruction.

During the 2000s, Marduk continued to release a series of albums that solidified their status as black metal legends. World Funeral (2003), Plague Angel (2004), and Rom 5:12 (2007) were all well-received by critics and fans alike, showcasing the band's ability to maintain the intensity and brutality that characterizes them, while continuing to explore new themes and sounds within black metal.

The band has faced several line-up changes over the years, but Morgan Håkansson has always maintained the band's artistic vision. In 2012, Marduk released Serpent Sermon, an album that was widely praised for capturing the essence of traditional black metal, while bringing modern production and a powerful sound.

The band's most recent album, Viktoria (2018), continues to explore themes of war and militarism, combining Marduk's usual intensity with refined production. The band continues to tour the world, maintaining its reputation as one of the most uncompromising and respected in the world of black metal.

With a career spanning over three decades, Marduk remains one of the most influential and controversial bands in black metal, known as much for their relentless music as their dedication to the spirit of the genre.
