ABOUT THE ARTIST

Stormzy

Stormzy, whose real name is Michael Ebenazer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., is a British rapper, singer, and songwriter born on July 26, 1993 in Croydon, London. He is one of the most prominent figures in the grime scene in the UK and has been one of the most influential artists in contemporary British music since bursting onto the music scene in the mid-2010s.

Stormzy gained notoriety with his freestyles on YouTube, particularly with the "Wicked Skengman" series, which helped establish his reputation in the grime scene. In 2014, he released the single "Not That Deep," which became a huge hit and helped cement his place as one of grime's most promising new talents.

Their debut album, Gang Signs & Prayer (2017), made history by becoming the first grime album to reach number 1 on the UK charts. The album was widely acclaimed by critics for its combination of personal and social themes, with tracks ranging from the hardships of youth to issues of faith and family. Singles such as "Big For Your Boots" and "Blinded by Your Grace, Pt. 2" stood out, showcasing both Stormzy's lyrical skill and his ability to create anthems that resonate with a wide audience.

In 2019, Stormzy released his second album, Heavy Is the Head, which also reached the top of the charts and further solidified his position as one of the most important voices in British music. This album includes hits such as "Vossi Bop", "Crown" and "Own It", featuring artists such as Ed Sheeran and Burna Boy.

Stormzy is not only known for his music, but also for his social activism. He has been an important voice in the fight against racism and for social justice in the UK. In 2018, Stormzy announced that he would fund scholarships for black students attending Cambridge University, a gesture that received widespread applause.

Combining a strong musical presence with a commitment to social issues, Stormzy continues to be a driving force in British music and culture, inspiring a new generation of artists and listeners.
