Whitesnake is a British hard rock band formed in 1978 by David Coverdale, former lead singer of the band Deep Purple. "Here I Go Again", in particular, became one of the biggest hits of the 80s and is, to this day, the song most associated with the band. In 1989, Whitesnake released Slip of the Tongue, which continued the band's commercial success, although it did not achieve the same level of success as the previous album. This album included the participation of virtuoso guitarist Steve Vai, who brought a new dimension to the band's sound. Singles such as "Fool for Your Loving" (covered from the album Ready an' Willing) and "The Deeper the Love" kept the band on the charts, but frequent lineup changes began to create challenges to the group's stability.

After a break in the early 1990s, Whitesnake returned in 1997 with the album Restless Heart, which featured a more mature and introspective sound, but failed to replicate the commercial success of previous albums.
