The Waterboys

The Waterboys é uma banda de rock alternativo e folk-rock, formada em 1983 por Mike Scott, o seu principal compositor e único membro constante ao longo das décadas. Originalmente baseada em Londres, a banda tornou-se conhecida pela sua capacidade de misturar rock, folk celta, poesia e elementos espirituais, criando um som épico e emocional que transcende géneros. A banda é amplamente celebrada pelo impacto dos seus álbuns e pela sua influência no desenvolvimento do folk contemporâneo.

O álbum de estreia, The Waterboys (1983), e o seguinte, A Pagan Place (1984), estabeleceram o som inicial da banda, caracterizado pelo que Scott chamou de "Big Music" – um estilo grandioso e cinematográfico que combinava letras introspectivas com arranjos exuberantes. Canções como "A Girl Called Johnny" e "The Big Music" mostraram a habilidade de Scott em criar paisagens sonoras emocionantes e poéticas.
