Lhasa de Sela, born September 27, 1972, in Big Indian, New York, and died January 1, 2010, in Montreal, Canada, was a Mexican-American singer and songwriter, widely recognized for the emotional depth of her performances and her ability to cross cultures and musical styles. With an unmistakable voice and a deeply personal artistic approach, Lhasa left an indelible mark on world music.

Born to a Mexican father and an American mother, Lhasa grew up in a nomadic family, traveling between the United States and Mexico.
