ABOUT THE ARTIST

Diana Ross

Diana Ross is one of the most influential and revered artists in the history of pop, soul and R&B music. Born on March 26, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, Diana Ross began her career as a member of the iconic group The Supremes, one of the most successful girl groups in Motown and popular music in general. As the group's lead vocalist, Ross and the Supremes conquered the world with their unique style and their immortal hits.

In 1961, Diana Ross and the Supremes (originally formed as "The Primettes") released their first single, but it was in 1964, with the hit "Where Did Our Love Go", that they became a household name. Throughout the 1960s, the group had a string of hits, including "Baby Love", "Stop! In the Name of Love" and "You Can't Hurry Love", all topping the charts and making the Supremes the most successful girl group in music history up to that point. The Supremes helped define Motown music and transform the music industry, establishing a lasting legacy.

After her departure from the Supremes in 1970, Diana Ross began a solo career that quickly cemented her as one of the most successful artists of all time. His album Diana Ross (1970) and the single "Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand)" were just the beginning of a series of successes that would follow. Her album Lady Sings the Blues (1972), which was a tribute to Billie Holiday, not only established her as a great performer, but also earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

In the late 70s, Diana Ross released one of the most iconic albums of her career, Diana (1980), which includes the hit "I'm Coming Out", a song celebrating her own independence and freedom. "I'm Coming Out" has become an anthem of the LGBT+ community and is to this day one of Ross' most celebrated songs. The album also included the track "Upside Down", which became one of the biggest hits of his career, blending the disco style with his unique sound.

Over the next few decades, Diana Ross continued to enjoy success both on the charts and in her live performances, while remaining one of the most respected figures in music. She has made a name for herself as one of the most prominent female artists in history, with over 100 million records sold and numerous awards, including Grammys, American Music Awards, and Billboard Music Awards.

In addition to her music career, Diana Ross has also ventured into the world of film and television. She continued to act in films and was an icon of style and beauty. Throughout her career, Diana was a true pioneer, breaking barriers in entertainment, being one of the first black women to achieve international success in both film and popular music.

With a career spanning more than six decades, Diana Ross remains a living legend, being remembered for her unique voice, her magnetic stage presence, and the profound impact she has had on music and pop culture. She is a true music icon and continues to influence generations of artists and fans around the world.
