ABOUT THE ARTIST

John Mayall

John Mayall (29 November 1933 – 22 July 2024) was one of the most influential and respected musicians on the British blues scene, often referred to as the "Father of British Blues". Born in Macclesfield, England, Mayall was a central figure in the resurgence of blues in Britain during the 1960s, particularly as the frontman of the band John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers.

His band, the Bluesbreakers, became a true institution in the blues world, serving as the starting point for some of the greatest guitarists in rock history, including Eric Clapton, Peter Green and Mick Taylor. The album Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton (1966) was a milestone for British blues and helped cement Eric Clapton as one of rock's biggest stars. This album, in particular, is often cited as one of the most influential blues albums of all time.

Throughout his career, which spanned more than six decades, Mayall released more than 60 albums, exploring a variety of styles within the blues, from the traditional to the more experimental, always maintaining a deep connection to the roots of the genre. He continued to record and tour well into his later years, showing rare energy and dedication.

John Mayall was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005, an honour that recognises his enormous contribution to music. His death in July 2024 marked the end of an era, but his legacy lives on through music and the many musicians he inspired throughout his life. John Mayall will always be remembered as a blues giant, whose influence extends far beyond the UK, touching the hearts of blues lovers around the world.
