M83 is a French musical project led by composer and producer Anthony Gonzalez, known for his cinematic approach to electronic music, blending elements of shoegaze, ambient, synthpop, and experimental electronic music. Founded in 2001, M83 began as a duo, but since the release of their debut album, M83 (2001), the band has become a project of Gonzalez, who became the sole permanent member. M83 has gained international recognition with its expansive, atmospheric, and often melodic sound, which evokes a sense of nostalgia and grandeur.

M83's big break came with the album Saturdays = Youth (2008), a work that captured a more accessible and pop sound, while still maintaining the experimental essence of the project. The album featured hits like "Graveyard Girl" and "Kim & Jessie," which became classics of alternative electronic music. Through this album, M83 managed to attract a global audience, combining the melodic beauty of the 80s with the modernity of electronic music.

In 2011, M83 released Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, a double album widely considered Anthony Gonzalez's masterpiece. The album was a commercial and critical success, with tracks like "Midnight City" and "Reunion" gaining immense popularity. "Midnight City," in particular, became one of the biggest hits of M83's career, with its captivating synthesizer line and an atmosphere that blends a dreamlike feel with electronic energy. The success of this album cemented M83 as one of the most influential bands in modern electronic music, and their music has been used in numerous advertising campaigns, films, and television programs.

M83 continued to explore new sounds on subsequent albums, such as Junk (2016), which incorporated a variety of influences, from 70s music to more experimental electronic music. Although Junk did not achieve the same level of commercial success as Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming, it was widely praised for its boldness and experimentation.
