ABOUT THE ARTIST

Moby

Moby, stage name Richard Melville Hall, is an American musician, producer and DJ, born on September 11, 1965, in New York City. Considered one of the pioneers of modern electronic music, Moby gained international notoriety in the 90s with his fusion of electronic music, techno, house, rock and classical music. His career spans several decades and styles, having released some of the most influential albums in electronic music, as well as being one of the first artists to popularize the use of gospel and blues music samples in electronic music.

His debut album, Moby (1992), laid the foundations of his career, but it was with Play (1999) that Moby achieved massive success. Play was a milestone in electronic music and pop music in general, being the first album to sell more than 10 million copies without the need for promotional singles, due to the success of its tracks such as "Porcelain", "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" and "Natural Blues". The album was both a commercial and critical success, and Moby became one of the most respected artists in the electronic music scene.

In addition to his commercial popularity, Moby also stood out for his ability to innovate within electronic music. He was one of the first artists to use samples from old songs not traditionally associated with electronic music, such as gospel, blues, and soul songs. This unique style of blending the ancient with the modern made him stand out in the electronic music scene, and many of his later works continued to explore these fusions of styles.

In the following years, Moby released albums such as 18 (2002) and Hotel (2005), which continued to explore the blending of electronic music with other genres, maintaining success among both electronic music fans and pop circles. 18 was particularly well-received, with singles such as "We Are All Made of Stars" and "In This World" becoming popular around the world. Moby was also recognized for his lyrical approach, which often addressed issues of spirituality, environmentalism, and social justice, reflecting his involvement with social and environmental causes.

In addition to his music career, Moby has been an active advocate for veganism and animal rights. He has used his fame to promote these causes and has been an advocate for sustainability and animal ethics. His passion for these causes is reflected in some of his songs and his personal life choice.

Moby's career has been marked by a series of successful albums and musical innovations, but also by moments of personal reflection and involvement in social and environmental causes. He continues to be one of the most important and influential figures in electronic music, being recognized both for his skill as a producer and for his commitment to promoting an ethical and positive message. His music continues to evolve, but always with the same ability to captivate and thrill listeners.
