ABOUT THE ARTIST

Scorpions

The Scorpions are one of the most iconic and influential rock bands in Germany and the world, known for their powerful ballads, rock anthems, and a career spanning more than five decades. Formed in 1965 in Hanover, Germany, the band gained international fame in the 1970s and 1980s, becoming one of the main forces of hard rock and heavy metal. The band's classic line-up includes Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitarist and founder), Matthias Jabs (guitarist), Francis Buchholz (bassist) and Herman Rarebell (drums).

The Scorpions started out as a psychedelic rock band, but quickly evolved into a heavier, more defined sound. Their debut album, Lonesome Crow (1972), laid the foundation for the band's sound, but it was with the entry of guitarist Uli Jon Roth and the subsequent change of style to a more hard rock and heavy metal sound that the band began to gain recognition. Albums such as Fly to the Rainbow (1974) and In Trance (1975) were crucial in establishing the band in the European rock scene.

The album Virgin Killer (1976) helped the band reach a larger audience, but also caused controversy due to the original cover, which was eventually changed on later releases. However, it was with Taken by Force (1977) that the band began to get closer to the sound that would make them world famous.

The real international explosion came with the album Lovedrive (1979), which marked the entry of guitarist Matthias Jabs and the temporary return of Michael Schenker, brother of Rudolf Schenker, to the band. This album included hits such as "Loving You Sunday Morning" and "Holiday," and was the band's first major hit in the United States. Lovedrive is widely considered to be one of the best hard rock albums of the era.

The success continued with the albums Animal Magnetism (1980) and Blackout (1982). Blackout was especially significant as it included hits such as "No One Like You" and "Can't Live Without You," and showcased Klaus Meine's ability to continue to deliver powerful vocal performances despite having undergone vocal cord surgery shortly before the album's recording.

In 1984, the Scorpions released Love at First Sting, which became one of the band's most iconic albums. It included hits such as "Rock You Like a Hurricane," which became a rock anthem and one of the band's biggest hits. The album also included ballads such as "Still Loving You," which demonstrated the band's ability to create emotionally intense and catchy songs. Love at First Sting was a huge commercial success and cemented the Scorpions' status as one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

In the following years, the band continued to release successful albums and tour internationally. In 1990, the Scorpions released Crazy World, which included the hit "Wind of Change," a ballad that became an anthem for the reunification of Germany and the fall of the Iron Curtain. "Wind of Change" was one of the band's biggest hits and one of the most iconic songs of the 1990s.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, the Scorpions continued to release albums and tour the world. Albums such as Face the Heat (1993), Pure Instinct (1996), and Unbreakable (2004) kept the band relevant in the rock scene, although they did not achieve the same level of commercial success as their releases of the 1980s.

In 2010, the Scorpions announced that they were preparing to retire and released the album Sting in the Tail, which was well received by fans and critics alike. However, due to fan demand and the continued success of their tours, the band decided to continue, releasing new albums and maintaining an active presence on stage.

In 2015, they released the album Return to Forever, which included new songs and some re-recorded tracks from old demos, and continued to tour internationally. The Scorpions' longevity and ability to reinvent themselves, while staying true to their signature sound, has ensured them a loyal fanbase over several generations.

The Scorpions are widely recognized as one of the most enduring and successful rock bands in the world. They sold more than 100 million records worldwide and left a lasting legacy with rock anthems like "Rock You Like a Hurricane," "Still Loving You," and "Wind of Change." The band continues to be a vital force in the rock world, with a career that shows no signs of slowing down, even after more than five decades of activity.

With a combination of powerful riffs, soulful lyrics, and an unparalleled stage presence, the Scorpions have established themselves as one of the greatest bands in rock history, and their impact on music continues to be felt today.
