Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo formed in 2009 in Columbus, Ohio, consisting of Tyler Joseph (vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist) and Josh Dun (drummer). Known for their fusion of genres encompassing pop, rock, hip-hop, reggae, electronic music, and punk, the duo has become a global phenomenon, gaining a vast fanbase thanks to their introspective lyrics and energetic live performances.

The band started as a trio, with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih alongside Tyler Joseph. They independently released their self-titled debut album in 2009. This early work helped establish the band's unique sound, characterized by a mix of styles and lyrics that address themes of personal struggle, anxiety, and hope. However, in 2011, Thomas and Salih left the band, and Josh Dun joined Tyler Joseph, forming the duo known today.

The album Regional at Best was released independently in 2011, and although it received moderate attention, it was with their third album, Vessel (2013), that the band began to gain notoriety. Released after signing with Fueled by Ramen, Vessel includes hits such as "Car Radio," "Holding on to You," and "House of Gold," which helped the band build a loyal fanbase and begin to appear on the mainstream music radar.

True success came with the album Blurryface (2015), which catapulted Twenty One Pilots to global stardom. This album, which explores themes of insecurity, identity, and mental health, was widely praised for its honest lyrical approach and diverse sound. It includes hit singles such as "Stressed Out," "Ride," and "Tear in My Heart," with "Stressed Out" becoming one of the biggest hits of the decade, reaching top positions on music charts in several countries.

Blurryface not only solidified the band's popularity but also earned them several awards, including a Grammy Award in 2017 for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the single "Stressed Out." The band's visual image also stood out, with the use of specific colors (such as red and black) symbolizing the album's themes and creating a striking visual identity.

In 2018, the band released the album Trench, which continued to explore complex themes of personal struggle and existentialism, but this time through a conceptual narrative involving the fictional city of Dema and its inhabitants. Trench was equally well-received, with tracks like "Jumpsuit," "Chlorine," and "My Blood" standing out. This album marked an evolution in the band's sound, incorporating influences from alternative rock, hip-hop, and electronic music in an even more refined way.

In 2021, they released Scaled and Icy, an album largely recorded during the lockdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. This work presents a slightly more optimistic tone than its predecessors, although it continues to deal with personal and emotional issues. Singles like "Shy Away" and "Choker" maintained the band's relevance in the contemporary music scene, showcasing their ability to adapt and constantly evolve.

Twenty One Pilots are known not only for their music, but also for their strong connection with their fans, often called "The Skeleton Clique". Their live performances are equally remarkable, characterized by explosive energy and intense interaction with the audience, making each show a unique experience.
