ABOUT THE ARTIST

Salvador Sobral

Salvador Sobral is a Portuguese singer and songwriter, born on December 28, 1989, in Lisbon. He gained international fame by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 with the song "Amar pelos Dois," composed by his sister, Luísa Sobral. Salvador Sobral's victory was historic, not only for bringing Portugal its first win in the festival, but also for his sincere and emotional performance, which contrasted with the more exuberant style typical of the event.

Before his Eurovision victory, Sobral had already begun his musical career, studying jazz at the prestigious Taller de Músics school in Barcelona. He released his first album, Excuse Me, in 2016, where he demonstrated his ability to fuse jazz, bossa nova, and pop music with influences from traditional Portuguese music. After Eurovision, his popularity skyrocketed, leading him to release his second album, Paris, Lisboa (2019), which was well-received by both critics and the public.

Salvador Sobral is known for his unique voice and the way he interprets songs with rare sensitivity, valuing simplicity and authenticity in music. He has been praised for his ability to convey emotions deeply and for distancing himself from the commercial norms of the music industry, preferring a more intimate and personal style.

Beyond music, Salvador Sobral also faced significant health challenges. In 2017, shortly after his Eurovision victory, he underwent a heart transplant, which kept him away from the stage for some time. However, the singer returned to music with renewed vitality, continuing to win over fans worldwide with his talent and authenticity.

With a constantly growing career, Salvador Sobral is today one of the most respected figures in contemporary Portuguese music, recognized for his unique artistic approach and ability to connect deeply with his audience.
