ABOUT THE ARTIST

Modern Talking

Modern Talking was a German pop music duo formed in 1984 by Thomas Anders (vocalist) and Dieter Bohlen (songwriter, producer and backing vocalist). They became one of the most iconic groups of the Euro disco genre in the 80s, winning fans worldwide with their catchy melodies and characteristic electronic arrangements.

The duo's first single, You're My Heart, You're My Soul (1984), was a resounding success, reaching the top of the charts in more than 30 countries and becoming the group's signature song. Other hits followed, such as You Can Win If You Want (1985) and Cheri, Cheri Lady (1985), which consolidated Modern Talking's style and their dominance in the European pop scene.

Early albums, such as The 1st Album (1985) and Let’s Talk About Love (1985), helped define the sound of euro disco, a blend of pop, synthesizers, and dance rhythms. The group's visual aesthetic, with Anders as the romantic figure and Bohlen as the strategist behind the scenes, also contributed to their global popularity.

However, after releasing six albums and a string of hits between 1984 and 1987, the duo split up, citing creative differences and personal tensions. During the 1990s, both members pursued independent careers, with Bohlen focusing on production and Anders on a solo career.

Modern Talking reunited in 1998, releasing new albums such as Back for Good (1998) and Year of the Dragon (2000), which featured updated versions of their classics, as well as new material. The second phase of their career kept the duo relevant, especially in Europe and Asia, where they maintained a passionate fanbase.

After five years of renewed success, Thomas Anders and Dieter Bohlen permanently ended the Modern Talking project in 2003, this time amicably. During their time together, they sold over 120 million records, becoming one of the most successful duos in music history.

Today, Modern Talking is remembered as an icon of Euro disco and 80s pop music, with songs that continue to resonate with generations and remain a nostalgic landmark for fans worldwide. Their unmistakable sound and the simplicity of their lyrics about love and hope keep their legacy alive decades after the group disbanded.
