ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tina Turner

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock on November 26, 1939 in Nutbush, Tennessee, is one of the most iconic and influential singers, songwriters, and performers in music history. Known as the "Queen of Rock 'n' Roll," Turner has taken the world by storm with her powerful voice, electric stage presence and a career spanning more than six decades.

Tina Turner began her music career in the 1950s, singing in nightclubs before joining Ike Turner and his band, The Kings of Rhythm. She rose to prominence with the release of "A Fool in Love" in 1960, which quickly became a hit. Tina and Ike Turner formed the Ike & Tina Turner Revue, one of the most dynamic duos of the era, known for their intense and energetic live performances.

During the '60s and early '70s, Ike & Tina Turner released a string of hits, including "River Deep – Mountain High," "Proud Mary" and "Nutbush City Limits." "Proud Mary" in particular has become one of her most iconic songs, winning a Grammy Award and cementing her reputation as a powerful force in music.

Despite her professional success, Tina's relationship with Ike was marked by physical and emotional abuse. In 1976, Tina left Ike and began a new chapter in her career as a solo artist. After years of struggling to reestablish herself, she made a remarkable comeback with the release of the album "Private Dancer" in 1984.

"Private Dancer" was a huge commercial and critical success, selling over 20 million copies worldwide. The album included hits such as "What's Love Got to Do with It," "Private Dancer" and "Better Be Good to Me." "What's Love Got to Do with It" became Turner's biggest hit, winning three Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year.

Over the next few years, Turner continued to release successful albums, including "Break Every Rule" (1986), "Foreign Affair" (1989), and "Wildest Dreams" (1996). She also won new fans with her performance in the film "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" (1985) and the theme "We Don't Need Another Hero."

Tina Turner is known for her electrifying live performances. Her inexhaustible energy, charismatic stage presence and powerful voice have made her concerts unforgettable experiences for millions of fans. The "Break Every Rule World Tour" and the "Twenty Four Seven Tour" were some of the most profitable tours in history.

In addition to his music career, Turner published his autobiography, "I, Tina," in 1986, which was later adapted into the biographical film "What's Love Got to Do with It" (1993), starring Angela Bassett. The film was a critical and commercial success, bringing Turner's inspiring life story to a new audience.

In 2008, Turner announced her retirement from the stage after the "Tina!: 50th Anniversary Tour," but she remained a respected and adored figure in music and pop culture. In 2013, she became a Swiss citizen and married her long-time partner, Erwin Bach.

Turner has also received numerous awards and honors throughout his career, including eight Grammy Awards and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2021, she was again inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, recognizing her lasting impact on music.

Tina Turner's music transcends generations, and her legacy as one of the greatest performers of all time is undeniable. Her story of resilience, talent, and perseverance continues to inspire millions of people around the world. Turner remains a true living legend, whose influence on music and pop culture will be felt for many decades to come.
