ABOUT THE ARTIST

My Dying Bride

My Dying Bride is a British doom metal band formed in 1990 in Bradford, England. The band is widely recognized as a mainstay of the doom/death metal subgenre, being one of the "big three" bands of British doom metal, along with Anathema and Paradise Lost. My Dying Bride is known for its melancholic and atmospheric sound, which combines elements of death metal with slow and heavy passages typical of doom, as well as deeply poetic and dark lyrics that address themes such as love, loss, suffering and death.

The band's original line-up included Aaron Stainthorpe (vocals), Andrew Craighan (guitar), Calvin Robertshaw (guitar), Rick Miah (drums) and Adrian Jackson (bass). Over the years, the band's lineup went through several changes, but Aaron Stainthorpe and Andrew Craighan remained constant members.

The band's first significant release was the EP Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium (1991), which quickly caught the attention of extreme metal fans for its innovative sound and dark lyrics. Their debut album, As the Flower Withers (1992), cemented the band's style, blending death metal with classic doom elements, including the use of violins, which would become a trademark of the band's sound.

Over the years, My Dying Bride released several critically acclaimed albums, such as Turn Loose the Swans (1993), which introduced a greater emphasis on melodic and gothic elements, and The Angel and the Dark River (1995), which abandoned growling vocals in favor of a cleaner, more emotional vocal style. This last album is considered one of the band's best, with tracks like "The Cry of Mankind" standing out for their emotional and atmospheric intensity.

The band continued to explore themes of suffering and melancholy on albums such as Like Gods of the Sun (1996), The Light at the End of the World (1999), and The Dreadful Hours (2001). Despite the various lineup changes, My Dying Bride kept their musical essence, always exploring new territories within doom metal, without losing the characteristic sound that gave them notoriety.

In 2020, the band released The Ghost of Orion, an album that was well-received by critics and fans alike, showing that even after three decades, My Dying Bride continues to be a creative force in the metal scene. This album stands out for its refined production and the band's ability to create dense and emotional soundscapes.

My Dying Bride is celebrated as one of the most important bands in doom metal, with a dedicated fan base around the world. Their ability to combine heaviness, melody and poetic lyricism continues to influence many other bands and captivate new fans, while maintaining their relevance and importance in the metal scene.
