ABOUT THE ARTIST

Idles

Idles is a British punk rock band formed in Bristol in 2009. The group consists of Joe Talbot (vocals), Mark Bowen (guitar), Lee Kiernan (guitar), Adam Devonshire (bass) and Jon Beavis (drums). Known for their energetic sound, politically charged lyrics, and intense live performances, the Idles quickly rose to prominence as one of the most influential and innovative bands in the contemporary punk and rock scene. His music addresses topics such as politics, toxic masculinity, mental health and social inequality, with a mix of anger, humor and humanity.

The band released their first EP, Welcome (2012), and continued to grow in the underground scene with the release of another EP, Meat (2015). However, it was with the release of his first studio album, Brutalism (2017), that Idles began to gain wider recognition. Brutalism received critical acclaim for its raw energy and incisive lyrics, addressing themes such as grief, social frustration, and the pressure of conformism. Songs like "Mother" and "Well Done" stood out for their combination of sonic aggression and powerful messages.

In 2018, Idles released their second album, Joy as an Act of Resistance, which further raised the band's profile. The album was widely praised by critics and garnered a global fan base. Joy as an Act of Resistance addresses themes such as the fragility of masculinity, immigration, identity politics, and empathy. Tracks like "Danny Nedelko," a celebration of diversity and immigration, and "Samaritans," a critique of toxic masculinity, have become anthems for many fans. The album was nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize and helped solidify the Idles' reputation as one of the most important bands in contemporary rock.

The band's third studio album, Ultra Mono, was released in 2020 and debuted at the top of the UK charts, confirming the Idles' growing impact on the music scene. Ultra Mono continues to explore social and political themes with a direct and uncompromising approach, addressing issues such as privilege, activism, and resistance. The album includes tracks like "Grounds" and "Mr. Motivator," which maintain the frenetic energy and sharp lyricism that define the band's sound.

In 2021, Idles released their fourth studio album, CRAWLER, which showed the band exploring new sounds and a more introspective approach, without losing the visceral impact that characterizes their work. This album received praise for expanding the band's musical range, incorporating elements of electronic music, post-punk, and even industrial influences. CRAWLER was seen as another significant step in the evolution of Idles, showcasing their ability to innovate and defy expectations.

Idles are known for their explosive and emotionally charged live performances, which often involve intense interactions with the audience. Their performances are celebrated for the authenticity and energy they bring to the stage, creating a live experience that is both cathartic and inspiring.

With a discography that continues to grow in depth and impact, Idles has become one of the most resonant voices in modern rock. They are often praised for their ability to address complex issues with brutal honesty and a message of solidarity and inclusion. The band continues to inspire fans around the world with their fiercely committed music and spirit of resistance, establishing themselves as a vital force in the contemporary music scene.
