ABOUT THE ARTIST

Suicidal Tendencies

Suicidal Tendencies is an American crossover thrash band formed in 1980 in Venice, California. The band is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of crossover thrash, a subgenre that combines elements of hardcore punk and thrash metal. Founded by Mike Muir, who remains the only constant member of the band, Suicidal Tendencies is known for its aggressive sound, lyrics that address social and personal themes, and its strong influence on the punk and metal scene.

The eponymous debut album, Suicidal Tendencies (1983), immediately stood out in the punk scene with the track "Institutionalized", which became one of the first punk videos to receive heavy rotation on MTV. This song, with its lyrics about teenage frustration and alienation, helped the band build a loyal fan base and become an iconic name in punk rock.

Over the next few years, Suicidal Tendencies evolved musically, incorporating more elements of thrash metal into their sound, as evidenced on the albums Join the Army (1987) and How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today (1988). These albums broadened the band's appeal, gaining recognition among metal fans as well. "You Can't Bring Me Down", from the album Lights... Camera... Revolution! (1990), became another major hit, cementing the band as a major force in the crossover scene.

Over the years, Suicidal Tendencies went through several lineup changes, but continued to release albums and tour intensively. The band remained relevant, not only for their music, but also for their influence on skateboarding and surfing culture in California, with their "suicidal" aesthetic becoming part of the subculture.

Today, Suicidal Tendencies continues to be an active and influential presence in the music scene, recognized for their enduring contribution to punk and metal, and for their ability to transcend genre boundaries by combining musical aggression with provocative and introspective lyrics.
