Chester Himes

Chester Himes nasceu no Missouri, a 19 de julho de 1909. Esteve preso por assalto à mão armada de 1928 a 1936. Em 1953 foi viver para a Europa. Tal como Raymond Chandler, Chester Himes tinha cerca de 50 anos quando começou a escrever livros policiais. Fê-lo a convite de Marcel Duhamel, responsável pela coleção «Série Noire», da Gallimard. Tumulto em Harlem é o seu maior sucesso.
