ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tomás de Aquino

Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274): known as Doctor Communis or Doctor Angelicus, is certainly one of the greatest figures in Christian and Western thought. At less than twenty years old, he entered the Dominican Order. He studied in Naples, Cologne, and Paris, where he was "discovered" by Saint Albert the Great, who was astonished by his intelligence. His nickname was "the dumb ox." Of him, the master Albert Saint Albert the Great said: "When this ox moos, the whole world will hear its moo."
Thomas Aquinas was a professor at the University of Paris during the reign of Louis IX of France. He died at the age of 49 at the Abbey of Fossanova, while on his way to Lyon to participate in the Council at the Pope's request. Dante Alighieri discusses the circumstances of his death in the Divine Comedy.
