ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jan Morris

Jan Morris (1926-2020) was born in Clevedon, England, to a Welsh father and an English mother, under the name James Humphrey Morris. Despite identifying as male, she realized "at three, maybe four years old" that she had been born "in the wrong body," completing her transition to female in 1972. She studied history at Oxford and at 17 joined the British Army. After leaving the military, she dedicated herself to journalism and joined the editorial staff of... The TimesHe published his first book following a visit to the USA in 1956. From then on, he wrote dozens of travelogues, history books and essays, two novels and a collection of short stories. Venice, Have, Spain, Manhattan ’45, Conundrum and TriesteHe spent the last years of his life in Wales, in the company of Elizabeth Tuckiness, whom he married in 1949 and with whom he had five children.
