Alan Furst was born and raised in Manhattan, New York. He lived for long periods in France, initially as a professor at the Faculty of Letters at the University of Montpellier, and later in Paris. As a journalist, he traveled through Eastern Europe and Russia. He was a contributor to Esquire magazine and the International Herald Tribune newspaper. The Polish Officer is his third book - along with Night Soldiers and Dark Star - about espionage in Europe in the 1930s and World War II. His work received excellent reviews and was published with extraordinary success in the United States and several European countries. The Polish Officer was acclaimed by critics and readers, who placed it on The New York Times bestseller lists for weeks. Dom Quixote has already published his novel The Correspondent.
