ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Christopher Priest

Christopher Priest was born in 1943 in Cheadle, England. His work includes such notable books as Fugue for a Darkening Island, Inverted World, The Affirmation, The Glamour, The Separation, and The Prestige. In 1983, Priest was one of the twenty Granta Best of Young British Novelists. Many of the plots he devises feature dubious narrators, raising questions about narrative, truth, and the nature of memory and reality. He was heavily influenced by science fiction pioneer H. G. Wells, and in 2006 was appointed vice-president of the H. G. Wells Society. A film based on his novel The Prestige was released in late 2006. Directed by Christopher Nolan and starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman, it was an international success with critics and audiences alike. Christopher Priest has been to Portugal several times, most recently at the invitation of Saída de Emergência for the 2006 Fantastic Forum.
