ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, then British India, on December 30, 1865. He began his literary career in 1886 with the publication of the volume of poems Departmental Ditties, quickly establishing himself as one of the most popular writers in the United Kingdom, both in poetry and prose. In 1894 he released The Jungle Book, which would become a juvenile classic all over the world. The Second Jungle Book was published the following year and Kim, considered his most accomplished work, came out in 1901. In 1907 he became the first English-language author to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature and is, to this day, the youngest writer to whom the distinction has been awarded (he was 41 years old). Rudyard Kipling died in London on January 18, 1936.
