The story of the ship especially built for Antarctic exploration, in particular for Captain Robert Falcon Scott's first expedition, by one who went with him. Bernacchi, a physicist, was the only member of that first expedition to have experience of Antarctic conditions, having been one of the first party ever to overwinter in Antarctica.
