Winter, Liverpool 1947. Evie Kilgaren is a fighter. Abandoned by her parents, she is left to raise her siblings as they battle against the coldest winter on record. Evie takes a job at the Tram Tavern under the watch of Connie Sharp. But Connie has problems of her own with the arrival of an undercover detective and a body in the canal.
