ABOUT THE AUTHOR

O. Henry

Pseudónimo de William Sidney Porter, nasceu a 11 de setembro de 1862, em Greensboro, Carolina do Norte. Depois de aprender as primeiras letras, é admitido como aprendiz de farmacêutico na botica da sua terra natal. Mais tarde, ansioso por novos horizontes, parte para o Texas, onde vive com pastores de gado. Em Austin, anos depois, torna-se empregado bancário, fundando por essa altura uma revista intitulada "The Rolling Stone". Aos trinta e dois anos, começa a escrever, mas um dia o banco abre falência e Oliver Henry recebe uma ordem de prisão. Foge e, quando finalmente se entrega, vive alguns anos preso, colhendo elementos preciosos para a sua obra de contista. Entre as suas obras mais notáveis conta-se "The Four Million". Morre em Nova Iorque em 1910.
