G. A. Cohen

G. A. Cohen (1941-2009) foi o mais persuasivo, influente e respeitado defensor contemporâneo do pensamento político da esquerda marxista e também um dos mais importantes filósofos políticos das últimas décadas, a par de figuras como John Rawls, Robert Nozick, Ronald Dworkin ou Michael Sandel. Nasceu em Montreal (Canadá), mas foi em Inglaterra que acabou por ensinar a maior parte do tempo, primeiro na University College of London e depois na Universidade de Oxford, onde se veio a tornar emeritus fellow do All Souls College. É autor de vários livros, entre os quais Karl Marx’s Theory of History: A Defence, If You Are an Egalitarian, How Come You’re So Rich?, Rescuing Justice and Equality e este Socialismo: Porque não?, que foi o último escrito, antes de falecer em 2009, em Oxford.
